Old and new champions reign at 11th Kalachuchi Classic

The 11th Kalachuchi Classic held last May 1, 2011 at the Calatagan Golf Club saw a roster of new champions and familiar names on top spots.

Of the 124 members and guests who signed up for this year’s 18-hole Best Ball Play, defending champions Philip Brodett and Rolly Viray managed to keep their reign as the overall gross team champions.

This year’s tournament welcomed Alan Chua and Fr. Edgar Villostas as the overall net team champions taking the place of previous winners Antonio Otayza and Antonio Hernandez.

Winners remained resolute amid slight rain showers on the last crucial holes of the game.

In the end, Tim Watt and Neil Howard were declared Group 1 champions, 1st Runners Up were William Bailey and Rodney Hall, and Benjie Macalalad and Glenn Vasquez were 2nd Runners up.

Group II champions were Obet Alvarez and Emmanuel Juliano, 1st Runners Up were Natalio Seña and Ervin Nocum and James Yeo and Mina Watt were 2nd Runners Up.

Group III champions were Louie Ysmael and Chito Melo, 1st Runners Up were Dan delos Reyes and Alvin Erni and Henry Hagedorn and Macky Cui were 2nd Runners Up.

Declared Class champions for the Guest Division were Bing Tolentino and Ped Suministrado, Jake Buenaflor and Garp Winkle as 1st Runners up and Patrick Tabuena and Ronal Nuñez as 2nd Runners Up.

At the putting contest held the night before the tournament, Albert NG. Garcia won first place, 2011 gross champion Rolly Viray bagged 2nd place and Rico Robles took third place.

It was a tough competition on the course but the players bid the 11-hour tournament goodbye with distinct comradeship and higher anticipation for what’s in store for them come next tournament.
